In Loving Memory
Born on March 12, 1949, Professor Zuheir Mekki Elsayed pursued his medical education at the prestigious University of Khartoum and Cairo University's Al Kasr Al Aini, laying the foundation for what would become an extraordinary career in orthopedic surgery. He became a member of the Arab Board of Surgeons and Orthopedic Surgeons, marking the beginning of his lifelong commitment to surgical excellence.
Throughout his distinguished career, Professor Zuheir held numerous prominent positions that shaped medical education and practice in Sudan. He served as Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Head of the Surgery Department at University of Bahri, and Head of the Orthopedic Department at the same institution. His leadership started at Juba University where he served as Head of the Department of Surgery, and continued to Omdurman Teaching Hospital where he was both General Manager and Chief of Surgery. He also served as Orthopedic Specialist at the Military Hospital in Riyadh and as Consultant of Orthopedic Surgery at Asia Hospital.
A pioneer in his field, Professor Zuheir was the first to introduce arthroscopy to Sudan, revolutionizing orthopedic surgical practice in the country. His influence extended beyond national borders as he served as President of the Sudanese Orthopedic Surgeons Association, Chair of the Medical Committee of the Sudanese Football Association, Sudan National Football Team doctor, and former AlHilal FC team doctor. He was also a member of FIFA's Medical Committee, member of CAF's Medical Committee, member of SICOT, and Chair of the SMSB Orthopedic Research Committee.
